Sponsor A Prospective Member
New! Junior Dames!
In February 2020 the Minnesota Dames Board of Managers voted to approve a Junior Dames program, open to girls and young women 21 and under who are eligible for membership in Colonial Dames.
Junior Dames will be proposed to the Board of Managers by a proposer and second in the same manner as other candidates (see Candidate Sponsor Packet and Member Proposal Form below). Then they (or their sponsors) will submit lineage papers to their colonial states for approval and will pay colonial state application fees.
Upon approval of their membership, Junior Dames will be charged reduced-rate annual dues of $50 ($10 in Minnesota state society dues, $40 in national per capita dues).
If you would like to propose a daughter, granddaughter, or other eligible young woman as a Junior Dame, please contact President Lois Mackin at loismackin@aol.com or call (612) 719-7435.
If you want to sponsor a prospective Dames member, this PDF packet gives you instructions, explains the two paths to membership for candidates with close relatives who are already Dames and candidates who need to supply full documentation, and contains an information sheet for you to share with your prospective member. To complete your proposal, you will need to download and complete the Member Proposal Form.
To propose someone for Dames membership, download this Word document, save it with your proposed member's name, and fill it in. Once you have filled it in, send it to the First Vice President or Membership Chair, who will take it to the Board of Managers. Thank you for helping us grow! Please note: this new form is designed to replace the proposal form in the back of our handbook.
Dames Insignia
If you're curious about purchasing, wearing, or disposing of Dames insignia, the NSCDA Insignia Guidelines booklet is available on the national website here. Because of concerns about Dames insignia being publicly sold online, the National Society has requested state society registrars to ensure that members know how to dispose of their insignia in the event of their death or resignation (bequeath to a relative or friend who is a Dame, sell to another member, or return as a gift to your corporate society) and to maintain a registry of members of their society who have purchased insignia. The national website has a form for recording your preference for disposal of your NSCDA insignia and pins that you can complete here and file with your important papers. To order insignia and pins, see the following link for pricing and then contact our Minnesota State Society Registrar Ann Essling at registrar@mndames.org.
Our lovely Minnesota State pin features te Lady Slipper, the Minnesota State flower. Enamel on a gold-filled base, it was designed by Minnesota Dame Adrienne Morrison and is available to past and present Minnesota Society members as well as MN Courtesy members. It can be ordered from Cowardin’s Jewelers on the form here. You will need your Colonial State Society number and Minnesota number, which you can find next to your name in the annual Yearbook.
